Goaltender Jeff Trigg of the Idaho Steelheads of the West Coast Hockey League received an unusual phone call. He had been summoned by Detroit Viper Head Coach and former NHL player Steve Ludzik to play a backup role in a game against the Utah Grizzlies in International Hockey League play March 23rd in Utah.

Due to injuries to both St. Louis starter Grant Fuhr, and Viper goaltender Jeff Reese, contacted Viper Goaltender Russ Parent who is under contract with the St. Louis Blues was called up. Current PHS player and Idaho goaltender Jeff Trigg was called up to the IHL to help fill his void.

Due to plane delays in getting to Utah, Trigg just made it in time to the teams pre skate warm-up to find out, he was starting not backing up. In his first IHL game and start, Trigg faced 32 shots in a 5-2 Viper loss, with an empty net goal.

Trigg admitted he was nervous, but welcomed the opportunity to start. Not only did I impress myself, but rumor has it that some of the Viper players were impressed as well. The Detroit Vipers are currently in First Place in the International Hockey Leagues North West Division and First Overall.
