Six players recently signed agreements to play Junior A hockey this season with clubs and
leagues on both sides of the border. Dan Delaney is extremely pleased to have six players playing this season at the Junior A level. "Finding players for Junior hockey clubs is not a problem, its finding the players the opportunity to play" says Dan Delaney President of Premiere Hockey Services. "I feel that all six of these players will get an opportunity to play". Both Craig Stern and William Wellman have signed with Parry Sound of the Provincial Junior A Hockey League as well Mike Ross with the Durham Huskies. Belguim player Achim Lootens has signed with the Bay States Breakers of the Eastern Junior Hockey League and Swiss goaltenders Marc Zimmerman and Steve Fumasoli have signed with teams in the Southern Elite Junior A Hockey League. The Pelham Prowlers and Orlando Fory respectively. Craig Stern (PA) is a 5' 11", 190 lb defensemen who played last season with the Minnesota Ice Hawks of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League. Forward William Wellman (ONT) was drafted in 1999 by the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League and is entering his first season of Junior A after a season with the Brantford AAA Major Midgets. Mike Ross (ONT) is entering his first season of Junior A hockey after playing last season with both the Mississauga Reps and Toronto Red Wings Major Bantam AAA teams. Ross is eligible to be drafted in the Ontario Hockey League's annual draft of Bantam and Midget aged players this coming June. Achim Lootens of Belgium 6' 4" 210 lb is entering his second season of North American Junior hockey, having played last season with the Aylmer Aces of the Western Ontario Junior Hockey League. Unlike the other junior players mentioned, Achim has played professional hockey in the Belgium Elite League with the Leuven Chiefs and has competed this past summer at the World Senior Championships in South Africa, where Belgium placed fourth. Both Swiss goaltenders are excellent college and major junior prospects having had tremendous success at the Elite Junior A level in Switzerland. Marc Zimmerman won the Swiss Elite Junior A Championship (1998) with Davos having an impressive 28-0 record. Steve Fumasoli played last season with Kloten of the Swiss Elite Junior A League compiling an impressive 22-06-03 record and winning the National Championship and was selected to the Swiss All State team. |
